According to CoinMeta, although the baby boomers have received a lot of attention, the Generation X (born between 1965 and 1980) faces a more severe retirement crisis, according to a report by the Retirement Income Research Institute. Generation X experienced a shift from traditional pensions to defined contribution plans such as 401(k)s, and many will have to rely on their own savings upon retirement. The report points out that Generation X went through eight economic recessions, bore the burden of student loans, and faced high housing costs, which limited their savings during their higher-income years. At the same time, only 14% of Generation X workers have traditional pensions. With social security trust funds expected to be depleted by the end of 2032, Generation X relies even more on their own savings and investments. 37% of Generation X are delaying retirement, and 41% believe their savings will be sufficient for a lifetime. Despite these challenges, Generation X can still protect their retirement savings through diversified investment strategies.
