What is re-pledge? How does EigenLayer convert the pledged ETH into shared security?
2026-08-04 00:01:50
According to CoinMeta, re-staking is a new model that allows new protocols to leverage the security of Ethereum. Since Ethereum transitioned to proof-of-stake in September 2022, over 30 million ETH have been staked, forming an economic security pool. Through re-staking, stakers can provide security for multiple protocols simultaneously, reducing the cost of setting up security for new protocols. The re-staking mechanism allows stakers to use their staked ETH to protect other services as well, creating a multi-protocol shared security network. The smart contracts of EigenLayer coordinate this process to ensure a secure and rewarding structure among stakers, operators, and active verification services.
