POAP announces closure, and the collaboration between Coinbase and Amex fails to save it
2026-08-04 13:23:40
According to CoinMeta, POAP ( Proof of Attendance Protocol ) announced its closure on August 3rd, despite attempts to save the project through collaborations with Coinbase and American Express. The co-founder of POAP, Isabel Gonzalez, stated that the reason for the closure was that the business model was not sustainable, and it was impossible to continue operations without compromising the project's original intent. Since 2019, POAP has issued nearly 7.6 million digital attendance badges, serving over 46,000 issuers. Although the company has closed, the badges that have been minted will remain in the holders' wallets, but future access and services will depend on the maintenance of the company's infrastructure.
