According to CoinMeta, the South Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance has confirmed plans to implement a 22% tax on cryptocurrency investment gains starting from January 1, 2027. After several delays, this tax policy was included in the 2026 tax reform plan and is expected to be approved by the National Assembly on August 3, 2026. Under the current income tax law, starting from 2027, profits from the transfer or lending of virtual assets will be taxed as other income. Investors with annual earnings exceeding 2.5 million Korean won (about $1,740) will be required to pay a 20% national tax and a 2% local tax.
