According to CoinMeta, Apple Inc. ($AAPL)’s stock price fell by 2% to $303.42 due to the company launching a new legal challenge against the UK government’s request to access encrypted data. Apple has filed an application with an independent court, questioning the government’s request related to UK users. This request involves Technical Capability Notices (TCNs), which require tech companies to provide customer information to assist in national security, terrorism, and child sexual abuse investigations. Although the UK government has previously abandoned broader data access requests, the latest one remains active. Apple argues that weakening encryption increases the security risks faced by users. The company also warns that removing such protections may make customers more vulnerable to attacks. Analysts have mixed views on Apple’s prospects, with one raising Apple’s target price to $350.
