According to CoinMeta, Google's parent company Alphabet announced major leadership changes in its artificial intelligence department on Wednesday. Demis Hassabis, the head of AI, stepped down from his main management positions, and several other Gemini model leaders, including senior engineer Jeff Dean, also resigned one after another. This personnel change comes at a critical time for Google's DeepMind; although the flagship version of its latest Gemini model was originally scheduled to be released in June, it has not yet appeared, raising concerns among investors and the industry, who believe that Google is falling behind its competitors Anthropic and OpenAI. Hassabis will take on the new role of Chief Scientist and will transition from Google's DeepMind Chief Executive Officer to Chairman. Corey Kaluçoglu, the Chief Technology Officer of this business unit, will take over the day-to-day management and will also continue to hold the position of Alphabet Chief Artificial Intelligence Architect.
