According to CoinMeta, Zcash has announced that a vote will be held on August 25th for 1 million ZEC holders. The voting will last for about 18 days and will determine multiple protocol-level decisions regarding the upcoming NU7 network upgrade. This vote is coordinated by Valar Group and Project Tachyon and utilizes a newly developed token holder voting chain, which is designed to protect privacy and allow users to participate without revealing their identities. The voting results will only be considered valid if at least 1 million ZEC tokens are involved. During the voting period, users must hold disposable ZEC tokens as of the blockchain snapshot on August 24th. The vote will decide whether to replace the traditional halving mechanism with a smoother issuance curve, as well as other key decisions.
