Artificial intelligence was cited as the main reason for these layoffs. The number of layoffs announced by employers in the U.S. in July was 27% lower than in June and 46% lower compared to the same period last year, marking the lowest monthly total of layoffs in two years. As of July, employers had announced 477,033 layoffs, which is a 41% reduction from the number of layoffs announced in the first seven months of 2025.
