According to CoinMeta, the Federal Reserve has approved Santander’s acquisition of Webster Bank for $12.2 billion. The deal was first disclosed in February of this year, and it is expected that after the merger, the combined entity will hold approximately $327 billion in assets, $185 billion in loans, and $172 billion in deposits. The Federal Reserve’s decision was made after obtaining consent from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in June 2026, and the transaction is expected to be completed on August 20, 2026. Santander stated that this acquisition is aimed at “strengthening” its operations in the United States and supporting its financial goals.
