According to CoinMeta, as reported by Chainalysis, in the first half of 2026, over $30 million in crypto assets were stolen due to violent attacks worldwide, involving 46 cases of kidnapping, burglary, and hostage-taking, which is an increase from 40 cases during the same period in 2025. Chainalysis predicts that if this trend continues, 2026 could become the worst year for crypto-related violent theft. The report notes that although most crypto crimes occur online, physical violence against holders is accelerating. France has become a major hot spot globally, with 30 known cases recorded. Chainalysis also mentions that attackers are increasingly targeting people closely related to crypto holders, with about 25% to 30% of the cases involving relatives or acquaintances.
