Jamie Dimon: Market leverage is high, but it has not yet posed a systemic threat
2026-08-06 22:51:08
According to CoinMeta, as reported by CNBC, JPMorgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon stated that current financial market leverage is at a high level, with margin debts reaching record highs. Some of these borrowings are hidden within activities of prime brokers, hedge funds, ETF, and arbitrage strategies involving U.S. Treasury bonds. He pointed out that high leverage increases the likelihood of individual investors or funds disrupting the market, and hedge funds focused on AI were forced to liquidate their stock portfolios due to failed bets on leveraged tech stocks. Nevertheless, Jamie Dimon did not define the current level of leverage as a systemic threat, believing that the market can absorb the failures of individual institutions, and that the current environment is different from the 2008 financial crisis. In addition, he mentioned that government deficits, infrastructure investments, and global rearmament could push up inflationary pressures and support higher long-term interest rates.
