Crypto for Advisors: European Crypto Regulations and US Previews
2026-08-06 23:13:08
According to CoinMeta, in CoinDesk's weekly publication Crypto for Advisors, Maria Golenkov explained how the EU's MICA framework could become a blueprint for future crypto regulation in the United States. She pointed out that advisors need to ensure that their governance and control measures are aligned now to avoid future confusion. Felix Xu answered questions about why operational risk is the main investment risk for digital assets during the "Ask the Expert" segment and explained the specific internal controls that advisors must implement. The deadline for MICA has arrived in Europe, and U.S. advisors should pay attention to this. Currently, crypto regulation in the U.S. is dispersed among multiple agencies; the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) each regulate different areas, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FCEN) also has its responsibilities, in addition to state-level requirements. The EU completed the formulation of MICA in 2023 and implemented it in 2024, and enforcement has now begun. By July 1, 2026, the transition period will end, and companies serving EU customers must obtain comprehensive authorization; otherwise, they will face the risk of being shut down.
