According to CoinMeta, AMD announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Toronto-based startup Taalas, which specializes in developing custom chips for inference. Taalas's accelerator is tailored for a single AI model and promises to provide faster output than traditional GPU. Since its establishment in 2023, Taalas has raised $219 million in venture capital. This acquisition was completed within seven months of NVIDIA's $20 billion takeover of high-performance AI chip design company Groq. AMD CEO Lisa Su stated that although GPU will still hold a major share of the AI chip market, the company is integrating Taalas's technology to enhance its product line.
