According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, the US dollar depreciated against major currencies, including the Japanese yen and euro, on Friday due to a surprise decline in July's employment data in the United States. Data from the US Department of Labor showed that the US economy lost 23,000 jobs in July, far below economists' expectations of an increase of 80,000 jobs. Although the unemployment rate dropped to 4.1%, the labor participation rate fell to a near five-and-a-half-year low of 61.4%. The US dollar depreciated against the yen after the report was released, losing the gains it had made recently due to historic interventions by US and Japanese authorities. Analyst Thierry Wizman stated that the market has pushed back the expectation of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike to October or December, rather than September. US Treasury yields tumbled significantly after the report was released, with the yield on two-year Treasuries falling by 5.19 basis points to 4.193%. Currently, the market expects a 56% chance that the Federal Reserve will maintain interest rates in September.
