SharpLink CEO: Opposing Ethereum's reduction of staking rewards to zero
2026-08-08 04:16:03
According to CoinMeta, SharpLink CEO Joseph Chalom opposes a proposal on Ethereum that could potentially eliminate staking rewards based on token issuance. He warns that this change could weaken Ethereum's attractiveness to institutions and increase the capital costs of decentralized finance. Chalom states that the proposed issuance model would gradually destroy a portion of the rewards paid to validators, undermining Ethereum's main economic advantage. The proposal is referred to as EIP-8363, but the mechanism he describes is consistent with a previous report on EIP-8361, which was a proposal to gradually reduce staking rewards. Chalom also noted that current Ethereum staking yields are around 2.75%. He warns that cutting staking rewards to zero could increase capital costs and result in negative yields after accounting for infrastructure fees and other operating expenses.
