Debate over ‘SaaSpocalypse’ intensifies, with sharp fluctuations in software stocks

According to CoinMeta, as software stocks experience severe fluctuations, the debate surrounding ‘SaaSpocalypse’ has intensified this week. The once-high-flying stock Airtable was acquired at a low price, while the prices of HubSpot, Datadog, and Figma plummeted after their financial reports were released. Investors are concerned that artificial intelligence models are eroding the value of expensive software products. Matt Hedberg, a software analyst at RBC Capital Markets, stated that companies will continue to use these coding agents to build functionality, which may put certain pressure on contract renewals. Nevertheless, Wall Street reminds people that the software industry still has potential. The stocks of Twilio and Atlassian both rose by more than 20% after their financial reports were released on Friday. Atlassian reported its most profitable quarter since 2021, and CEO Mike Cannon–Brookes stated that the company’s R&D team is striving to provide customers with the best quality, price, and speed. Although Atlassian still fell by 8% this year, its 35% increase on Friday was its best performance since going public in 2015.
