According to CoinMeta, Bitcoin core developer Luke Dashjr stated that if the BIP 110 fails, changing Bitcoin's proof-of-work system is "the only option." Critics warn that if six mining pools are able to block this proposal, Bitcoin's decentralization will be "effectively lost." Meanwhile, the price of Bitcoin briefly broke through $65,340, reaching a new high since July 27, before falling back to near $65,000.
