According to CoinMeta, the U.S. Department of Defense is pushing the defense industry to accelerate weapons production in order to help replenish ammunition stocks that have been depleted due to the ongoing conflict with Iran. Department of Defense spokesman Sean Parnell stated in a statement on Saturday that the department is actively focusing on increasing ammunition procurement to provide “the weapons our combat personnel need to meet the pace of the threat.” He confirmed that the department has made efforts over the past week to significantly speed up this process and emphasized that it is part of a broader modernization effort that began more than five months ago. Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg wrote to industry leaders on Wednesday, requesting them to submit plans within 21 days to “promote significantly faster and more aggressive delivery timelines and/or increase the production of critical capabilities.”
