According to CoinMeta, the efforts by Bybit in U.S. courts have deepened, with the aim of tracing the funds from a $1.5 billion hacking incident that occurred in February 2025. A federal judge has approved the acceleration of evidence collection and partially granted Bybit's preliminary injunction request. On June 18, Bybit filed a lawsuit in the District Court of Columbia against North Korea and its General Bureau of Reconnaissance, the Lazarus Group, and 20 unnamed defendants. The latest updates indicate that approximately $48.4 million in stolen assets have been recovered, while over $30.5 million remains frozen in more than 28 exchanges and custodian institutions. Court records show that Judge John D. Bates approved the acceleration of evidence collection on June 19, allowing Bybit to obtain account identities, balances, and transaction histories from platforms that may hold information regarding the stolen funds. The court also issued a temporary restraining order to prevent the transfer of certain traceable assets. Bybit stated that the court believes there is a "high likelihood of success" in their case.
