Anthropic adds an invisible watermark to the text generated by Claude
2026-08-11 11:12:42
According to CoinMeta, Anthropic has begun to add machine-readable “invisible watermarks” to the text generated by Claude. These watermarks are integrated directly into the text produced by the model and are not metadata attached to the files; they are therefore retained even after copying and pasting. This change is mainly made to comply with the transparency requirements of the European Union’s AI legislation, and it will be implemented globally. Officials noted that if the text is too short, there may not be sufficient signals for detection, and significant rewriting, translation, or mixing with other content may also result in undetected watermarks. Therefore, simply changing a few words may not be effective.
