Arthur Hayes: The Fed's yen bailout may drive up Bitcoin, gold, and Ethereum
2026-08-11 15:06:14
According to CoinMeta, the Fed-backed yen rescue could become an unexpected catalyst for the rise of Bitcoin, gold, and Ethereum. He believes that this move could inject new dollar liquidity into the global market, thereby creating new buying pressure for major crypto assets. Hayes points out that Japan faces the dual challenges of a weakening yen and rising government bond yields, and if Japan raises interest rates excessively to support the yen, it could trigger market turmoil. To avoid such issues, Hayes suggests that Japan could utilize the Federal Reserve's foreign exchange and International Monetary Fund (IMF) repurchase facilities, rather than selling U.S. government bonds. In this way, Japan could use its government bonds as collateral to borrow newly created dollars from the Federal Reserve. Hayes believes that more dollar liquidity would generally encourage investors to turn to assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and gold.
