SEC Plans to Advance Regulatory Measures for Cryptocurrency Assets, Possibly Paving the Way for Stock Tokenization

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Bloomberg, SEC plans to advance two regulatory measures for crypto assets in the coming days. These include holding a public meeting this Friday to discuss the establishment of customized issuance systems for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets, as well as proposing an "innovation exemption" for tokenized securities transactions. Sources indicate that the latter measure could be announced as early as Friday, potentially paving the way for 24/7 online trading of stock tokens. The new proposal may allow listed companies to oppose the tokenization of their stocks by third parties and may require relevant trading platforms to strengthen anti-money laundering measures for U.S. entities. SEC originally planned to announce this exemption in May, but postponed it after listening to the opinions of stock exchanges, listed companies, and other market participants. Meanwhile, Clarity Act has previously encountered delays due to partisan disputes over ethical restrictions on crypto-related activities by public officials. The leader of the Senate majority, John Thune, has submitted a motion to limit debate in preparation for a procedural vote in mid-September.
