According to CoinMeta, New York City’s five major pension funds outperformed their investment targets over the past fiscal year, achieving a return rate of 13% and increasing their asset size to $326.3 billion. This is the best performance since 2021, exceeding the target return rate of 7%, and is expected to alleviate New York City’s financial pressures. Comptroller Mark Levine estimates that improved pension fund investments over the next five years will result in a reduction of about $6.3 billion in pension contributions for New York City. Officials predict that as of the fiscal year starting July 1, 2027, New York City’s fiscal deficit will reach $6.4 billion. These pension funds have benefited from the surge in artificial intelligence, which has boosted investor optimism and led to a significant increase in stock prices; returns on stocks in developed overseas markets reached 15.6%, while those in emerging markets soared by 42%.
