German companies expect AI to suppress wages, with junior employees being the first to suffer

According to CoinMeta, a survey conducted on Wednesday by the IfW Institute for Economic Research in Germany, which involved more than 3,000 German companies, indicates that companies deploying artificial intelligence (AI) expect wage levels to be pressured down over the next five years as the scope of AI applications expands, particularly for junior employees. Among companies using AI, about half anticipate that the salaries of employees with less than five years of work experience will decline. For more senior employees, approximately 40% of the companies predict a decrease in their wages. At the same time, employees with a university degree are significantly more likely to see a rise in their salaries compared to those without a university education. Researcher Anna Ruffert stated that the impact of AI on employees is not equal, and especially for those with formal education and extensive work experience, companies more frequently expect AI to have a positive effect on their wages.
