Bitmart Lending Report Missing, Triggering Concerns about Customer Asset Custody

According to CoinMeta, the missing proof of funds reports for Bitmart and withdrawal complaints from two crypto projects have raised new questions about how customer assets are safeguarded during the exchange's liquidation period. Himanshu Sahay, co-founder and chief technology officer of Arch Lending, stated that the issues with withdrawals and the closure of the exchange have exposed a gap between the guarantees provided by the platform and the financial information that customers can independently verify. He pointed out that customers usually do not have real-time means to confirm whether the exchange is keeping their assets in segregated accounts or mixing them with funds used for other operations. Sahay also mentioned that there are tools in the industry that can reduce this uncertainty, including third-party custody, reserve proofs, and strict asset segregation. Bitmart indicated in May that they were preparing a proof report, but as of August 12, no comprehensive report had been released yet. Bitmart has not released independently verified asset and liability data, making it impossible for external parties to confirm whether the exchange holds sufficient liquid assets to meet all customer obligations.
