Houthi missiles hit merchant ship, resulting in deaths of crew members; Saudi Arabia mobilizes troops for a large-scale counterattack

According to CoinMeta, Saudi Arabia is considering supporting a ground offensive in Yemen, aimed at recapturing the Red Sea coast controlled by Houthi militants. Since 2014, the Houthi have controlled Yemen's capital and northern regions and now hold the Red Sea coastline facing Saudi Arabia, with their weapons posing a direct threat to Saudi territory. On August 9th, the group claimed that drones attacked the Aramco refinery in Jizan, southern Saudi Arabia. The port of Yanbu on the Red Sea coast is an important export terminal for Saudi Arabia, exporting about 4 million barrels of crude oil daily. Saudi Arabia has previously taken the lead in forming a "Maritime Defense Alliance" and assembled ground troops, and is now evaluating whether to launch a large-scale offensive. However, analysts point out that Saudi Arabia has not performed well in the Yemeni conflict from 2014 to 2022, and its offensive to capture the port of Hodeida in 2018 also ended in failure. Additionally, Saudi Arabia's former ally, the United Arab Emirates, has fallen out with Saudi Arabia over the Yemen issue this year, so the ground offensive faces significant challenges.
