According to CoinMeta, the new federal rules may terminate the mortgage servicing fees for some homeowners. On Tuesday, attorneys general from ten states filed lawsuits seeking to invalidate these two regulations. These rules allow certain banks to bypass state laws without paying interest on the remaining mortgage balances. The federal lawsuit was filed in a district court in Oregon, with targets including the Federal Reserve (OCC) and its head, Jonathan Gold. The new rules of the Federal Reserve were announced in May and took effect on June 18th. By law, approximately 80% of mortgage holders have servicing accounts, which are used to pay for homeowners' insurance, property taxes, and other fees.
