According to CoinMeta, as listed Bitcoin mining companies accelerate the transition of their power and infrastructure to AI / HPC, the actual computing power of the listed mining companies it tracks decreased from 368.3 EH /s in the fourth quarter of 2025 to 319 EH /s in the second quarter of 2026, a decrease of 13.4% over half a year. During the same period, the average quarterly computing power of the entire Bitcoin network fell by 10.6%. Excluding those mining companies that expanded against the trend, the actual computing power of the remaining sample mining companies decreased by 21.2%. The Energy Mag indicates that this round of contraction is mainly driven by the weakening economic viability of mining, as well as the competition for capital and power resources between AI and Bitcoin mining.
