According to CoinMeta, a policy research institution named Bitcoin Policy Institute issued an open letter on August 10th, which was signed by over 40 Bitcoin and digital asset organizations. They called on leading AI laboratories to provide controlled early access to audited open-source security researchers. The signatories included Coinbase, Bitgo, Block, Blockstream, Anchorage Digital, and others. The open letter pointed out that the Bitcoin ecosystem is worth over $1 trillion, and wallets, cryptographic libraries, payment processors, exchanges, hosting services, and Lightning Network tools all rely on open-source software. The signatories believe that attackers are exploiting AI to accelerate the search for vulnerabilities, while defenders are often limited by the security policies of AI products. The open letter did not request the public release of high-capacity network attack models AI, but instead suggested establishing a trusted access program that would provide pre-release models, computing resources, private code review spaces, and communication channels with the laboratory's security teams.
