Strategy and Metaplanet face the proposal for removal from the MSCI index

According to CoinMeta, MSCI is considering a new approach that may result in the removal of Strategy and Metaplanet from its global investable market indices during the index review in November 2026. Based on data simulations from May, MSCI identified these two Bitcoin treasury companies and the British uranium investor Yellow Cake as among the three existing constituents that would be removed under the proposed rules. The proposal is still in the consultation phase, with feedback being accepted until September 30, and the results are expected to be announced on October 16. MSCI explicitly warned that the consultation “may or may not” lead to the proposed changes. The new approach aims to address criticisms of the previous 50% digital asset threshold by applying financial tests across various industries. Using data from May 2026, simulations by MSCI indicate that Strategy (with a market value of approximately $23.93 billion), Yellow Cake (with a market value of about $1.81 billion), and Metaplanet (with a market value of around $654 million) would be removed.
