Chinese court ruling: Employees cannot be dismissed for being replaced by AI

According to CoinMeta, Chinese courts have ruled that employees cannot be dismissed merely because they are replaced by AI. In Hangzhou, an employee named only with the surname Zhou was dismissed from a technology company for refusing to accept a demotion that came with a 40% pay cut. The arbitration panel ruled that the dismissal was illegal and ordered the company to pay additional severance benefits. Meanwhile, the United States has not yet passed any laws to protect employees from being replaced by AI. The AI Tax and Work Protection Act proposed by Congressman Greg Casar and others aims to establish a Work Protection Administration to mitigate the impact of AI layoffs.
