NVIDIA Provides a $250 Billion Guarantee Plan for OpenAI Data Centers
2026-08-15 10:01:34
According to CoinMeta, NVIDIA is close to reaching a financing agreement with OpenAI to build a large data center campus in Ohio. The two parties have restructured the deal; initially, NVIDIA was only supposed to provide guarantees for half of this multi-billion-dollar expansion plan. However, the revised plan reduces NVIDIA's financial guarantee amount from $250 billion to less than $120 billion. This adjustment is in response to investors' concerns about the chip manufacturer's risk exposure. NVIDIA is using its own balance sheet to boost demand for its artificial intelligence chips. The agreement could be signed as early as this weekend, and NVIDIA will provide financial guarantees for the first phase, which totals approximately 5 gigawatts of power capacity. Decisions regarding whether and how to finance subsequent phases will be made later. OpenAI is still in negotiations and plans to sign binding leases for 10 gigawatts of capacity within the next few days for this project.
