Rand Paul: Go to Fort Knox to verify the US gold reserves
2026-08-18 06:12:04
According to CoinMeta, Senator Rand Paul recently visited Fort Knox to confirm that the U.S. gold reserves still exist. In 1974, Fort Knox underwent a high-profile inspection, although there has been no independent audit since then. In 2024, the U.S. Treasury Department stated that Fort Knox's gold reserves amounted to 4,580 metric tons, but many fiscal conservatives expressed skepticism about this figure. Paul began requesting access to view the gold in February 2025 and recently managed to enter the underground vault at Fort Knox, confirming that the gold reserves were approximately 147 million ounces. He pointed out that although this inspection does not constitute a true audit, it is the first external verification of the U.S. gold reserves in decades.
