According to CoinMeta, as reported by digital and asset, the Korean Broadcasting Media Communications Review Committee decided on August 18 to impose access restrictions on the prediction market platform Polymarket due to its provision of “winner-takes-all” transactions surrounding uncontrollable events such as politics, sports, elections, and weather, which is considered to encourage gambling behavior. Polymarket argued that the platform uses a non-hosted P2P and smart contract model and does not directly manage user funds, but regulatory authorities stated that decentralized technology or service models cannot serve as a reason to evade Korean laws.
