Standard Bank in talks to invest in OPay, aiming to bet on its prospects for going public in the US IPO

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Bloomberg, Standard Bank is in talks with Nigerian fintech company OPay about a potential investment, with plans to complete the deal before OPay travels to the United States for IPO. OPay is supported by SoftBank Group, Sequoia Capital, and others, and is collaborating with Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, and JPMorgan Chase to advance its listing in New York. No final agreement has been reached between the two parties yet. OPay was established in 2018 and has approximately 50 million users; it is expected to achieve transaction volumes of $358 billion and become profitable by 2025. McKinsey predicts that African fintech revenue will grow to $47 billion by 2028, with mobile payments accounting for $1.4 trillion in transactions in Sub-Saharan Africa.
