Cleveland Fed Survey: Businesses Expect Inflation to Ease, Investment Weakens
2026-08-19 01:09:23
According to CoinMeta, a survey by the Cleveland Federal Reserve shows that corporate executives surveyed expect consumer price inflation to ease slightly in the coming year, with an inflation forecast of 3.3%, down from 3.7% in the second quarter. Although inflation expectations have declined, they are still higher than the Federal Reserve's target of 2%. Wage growth is expected to be 2.8%, which is close to the 2.9% reported in last year's survey. Corporate expectations for employment levels have not changed significantly, indicating that the labor market remains stable. Expectations for research and development spending growth are only 2.0%, significantly lower than last year's 3.1%. This suggests that companies are becoming more cautious when assessing economic conditions and financing costs.
