The U.S. Treasury Department unexpectedly announced support for long-term government bonds, leading to a surge in precious metals prices

According to CoinMeta, the U.S. Treasury Department announced today that it will at least double the scale of its liquidity support repurchase operations. The maximum purchase amount for long-term government bonds will increase from $2 billion to at least $4 billion, and the change will take effect on September 9, 2026. This move comes as long-term government bond yields are under upward pressure; the yield on 30-year bonds has recently risen to its highest level since 2007, and the market has reacted strongly to this. The announcement led to a decline in actual yields, which in turn drove up the prices of precious metals.
