According to CoinMeta, OpenRouter is being acquired by Stripe for a transaction price estimated to exceed $8 billion. According to reports from Business Insider, a16z and Menlo Ventures have cashed out nearly $2 billion over the past two years. a16z invested about $20 million in the seed round of OpenRouter and now holds more than 17% of the shares, which are valued at nearly $1.5 billion based on the acquisition price. Stripe stated in the latest investor letter that it believes the AI singularity has begun, and privatization has instead become an advantage. Stripe reported a 41% year-over-year increase in net revenue and a 43% increase in free cash flow in the first half of this year. Currently, 88% of the companies within Forbes AI are using Stripe. Stripe also mentioned that in the future, they will help the company manage AI calls, and OpenRouter will complement this aspect.
