According to CoinMeta, based on early data from in, in July, foreign investors sold a net 1.28 trillion yen worth of Japanese medium- and short-term government bonds, setting a new record since 2006. At the same time, foreign investors bought a net 889.8 billion yen worth of government bonds with maturities of over 10 years. Mitsubishi UFJ Securities strategist Keisuke Tsuruta stated that market expectations for the Bank of Japan to accelerate its interest rate hike cycle and the weakening of the yen were the main factors driving this net selling by foreign investors.
