Anthropic Acquires British Chip Startup Fractile Which Estimates Its Value at $1 Billion

According to CoinMeta, Anthropic is in negotiations with London-based startup Fractile to purchase its inference chips, which have a valuation of up to $1 billion. Fractile was founded at the end of 2022, and its core solution is to use SRAM (static random access memory) to replace HBM (high-bandwidth memory) that GPU relies on, in order to reduce data transfer between the chip and external storage, thereby lowering inference power consumption and costs. The two parties have reached a preliminary agreement, and Anthropic plans to purchase approximately $250 million worth of Fractile chips, with the possibility of expanding purchases in the future. Fractile completed a $220 million financing round in May this year, with a pre-financing valuation of around $1 billion, and now plans to raise about $600 million, raising its pre-financing valuation to $6.5 billion.
