OPEC: Global natural gas demand will increase significantly by 2050
2026-08-20 16:34:34
According to CoinMeta, OPEC stated on the 20th that it expects global natural gas demand to increase to over 91 million barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2050, an increase of more than 19 million barrels of oil equivalent compared to 2025. OPEC pointed out that natural gas will further consolidate its long-term position in the global primary energy structure, largely replacing coal and providing support for intermittent renewable energy in the power generation sector. The growth in demand mainly comes from non-OECD regions, driven by natural gas power generation, expanded use of gas in the petrochemical industry, and increased demand from the residential sector. At the same time, OECD countries' natural gas demand is expected to stabilize and may see a slight decline after 2040 due to improved energy efficiency and stricter emission policies.
