According to CoinMeta, Google won the auction for the bankruptcy data of Spirit Airlines for $10 million. The data includes approximately 100 million emails, 500 million Microsoft Teams chat records, tables, calendars, and operational documents. Google stated that it will use this data to improve its products and AI models. AI, a data company, also participated in the bidding, ultimately offering $7.5 million. This transaction still requires approval from a U.S. bankruptcy court. Union representatives of thousands of former Spirit flight attendants have opposed it, requesting that employee confidential information be excluded or that at least equal protection be given to employee data as to customer data. The court has postponed the approval hearing to September 9th. Google responded that identifiable personal information will be removed by a third party before the data is delivered.
