Malwarebytes discovers fake AML detection websites inducing users to authorize wallets
2026-08-20 21:37:14
According to CoinMeta, a cybersecurity company has discovered that several fake cryptocurrency verification websites are impersonating services such as AMLBot, enticing users to connect their wallets and authorize transactions. These websites simulate the verification process with false progress indicators and results, and some even require users to pay a verification fee. Connecting to these wallets exposes users' address and asset information, which can be exploited by scammers to create fraudulent transactions. Malwarebytes recommends that users who have granted permissions for suspicious tokens revoke those permissions, and those who have entered their mnemonic phrases or private keys should transfer their assets to new wallets.
