Trump cancels 26.4% import tariffs on beef; beef prices expected to drop by 25%
2026-08-21 23:13:49
According to CoinMeta, Trump announced on social media that he would eliminate the 26.4% tariff on imported beef in order to address the issue of rising beef prices. He pointed out that the increase in beef prices is mainly due to a continuous decline in the number of cattle in the United States, resulting in fewer cattle available for production, while consumer demand remains strong. Data from the US Department of Agriculture ( USDA ) shows that the current number of cattle has dropped to its lowest level in nearly 75 years. As of July 1, 2026, there were 94.2 million cattle and calves in the United States, of which only 2.85 million were cows, a year-on-year decrease of 1%. Trump stated that after the tariff is eliminated, beef will be sold at a price 25% lower than the current market price.
