According to CoinMeta, the latest report from TRM Labs indicates that the adoption of AI in crypto crimes has increased by 40% over the past year. Its “AI crime adoption index” currently stands at 54 points, which is in the “emerging” stage, higher than the approximately 28 points in 2024. Among these, fraud is the only type of crime that has reached the “mature” stage. Since 2022, reports of crypto fraud involving deepfakes and AI chatbots have increased by about 13 times. As of 2026, the reported losses from deepfake fraud are 263% higher than those throughout 2025. The report also notes that North Korean hackers are using deepfakes for IT personnel infiltration and are leveraging AI to carry out social engineering attacks and vulnerability discovery.
