Kalshi Blocks Washington Users from Accessing the Prediction Market
2026-08-23 22:44:46
According to CoinMeta, Kalshi has prevented users in Washington state from accessing its prediction market during their legal battle with the state. In a motion dated August 21st, Kalshi accused Washington state of granting more favorable treatment to its competitor, the North American Derivatives Exchange (OG). Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown considers these products to constitute unlicensed gambling. Kalshi continues to argue that, under the Federal Commodity Exchange Act, CFTC has an exclusive right to contracts listed on registered exchanges. Kalshi's request will be considered by Judge John McHale on September 2nd, and the current restrictions remain in effect during the request's consideration period.
