Michael Saylor: Bitcoin is digital energy
2026-08-23 23:07:37
According to CoinMeta, Michael Saylor reiterated his views on Bitcoin on August 23, describing it as a mechanism that converts economic value into a digital form that can be controlled by individuals, companies, and governments. He stated that Bitcoin represents a breakthrough in converting economic energy into a digital form and securely binding it to individuals, families, companies, or nations. Saylor views “digital energy” as a metaphor for transferable and enduring value, emphasizing that this is not an accounting or legal classification. His statement expresses an investment theory, rather than establishing the ultimate purpose of Bitcoin. MicroStrategy practices this theory through the largest publicly disclosed corporate Bitcoin portfolio. The latest document shows that as of August 16, MicroStrategy held 840,447 Bitcoins, with a purchase cost of $63.36 billion, averaging $75,385 per coin. This holding accounts for about 4% of Bitcoin’s maximum supply of 21 million coins. On August 23, the trading price of Bitcoin was near $77,175, and the value of MicroStrategy’s holdings was approximately $64.86 billion, exceeding its total purchase cost by about $1.5 billion.
