According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, India will launch tokenized corporate bonds next month as a test of blockchain technology to achieve instant settlement in bond transactions. These bonds will be issued for the first time by the state-owned power financing company REC, marking India's alignment with markets such as Europe and Hong Kong in using this technology for issuance and settlement. The value of these tokenized bonds will be less than 5 billion Indian rupees (about 57 million US dollars), and they are expected to be unveiled during next month's annual fintech event. Investors will need to access two digital accounts: a wholesale digital currency wallet provided by a bank and a new electronic securities wallet. India's depository institution is developing an electronic wallet called Demat 2.0, which will record bond holdings on the blockchain technology.
