According to CoinMeta, Samsung Electronics' stock price fell by 8.7% on Monday due to investors' unexpectedly negative reaction to the company's record shareholder return plan. The plan promises to return 90 trillion to 110 trillion Korean won (about $65 billion to $79 billion) to shareholders in 2026, but investors hoped for more explicit buyback commitments. Samsung's return plan includes a cash dividend of about 30 trillion Korean won in the third quarter and a commitment to return 50% of free cash flow to shareholders. The details of the plan will be determined after the annual financial results are confirmed in January 2027, and this uncertainty is considered the main issue. Meanwhile, competitor SK Hynix recently launched a buyback and cancellation plan worth 40 trillion Korean won, further raising market expectations.
