If this measure is implemented, it would become the largest single-scale visa revocation in U.S. history and is likely to face legal challenges. The U.S. State Department is expected to announce within the next few weeks that it will revoke b1 and b2 visas issued between 2016 and 2026 to individuals who had applied for or are applying for asylum. A State Department spokesperson stated that they are working with the Department of Homeland Security to identify and revoke non-immigrant visas of foreigners who claimed to be short-term visitors but later applied for asylum. The revocation of visas does not necessarily mean immediate deportation; most of those whose asylum applications are currently under consideration will be reclassified, but they will lose their status as business or tourist travelers.
